Chapter 44: Improving my Father's method?!

Chapters
Approx. 4min reading time

Fang’s predictions turned out to be wrong. Eleven days had passed, and Blue still came to class daily, no matter how much Fang advised him otherwise. Soon enough, Weiss noticed Fang’s intentions and felt amused inside. *This dumb kid really wants to convince that temperamental girl.*

However, Scarlett must have come to the class for her roommate, Fang, because Meteor would be utterly useless to her. No matter how much Weiss looked, he couldn’t figure out what attracted her to Fang.

After a few attempts to dissuade Blue, Fang gave up. His roommate would just get angry and stop talking to him, so Fang decided to help Blue as much as he could.

As dusk set in, the practice area was open for all of class eight to use. Because Fang had defeated Ray, no one from the other classes dared to bother them.

Fang and Blue walked to the field, and Fang asked, “Blue, are you practicing anything important?”

There wasn’t much that needed practice since training at this stage didn’t hold much significance for Blue. “No, why?”

“Well, I thought we could discuss what we learned in today’s class. What do you think?”

Blue shrugged. “Okay.”

Their discussion would have shocked anyone else at the college.

Fang, armed with the knowledge of the excellent theories taught by the ten elders, had an extensive understanding of the technique’s formation and shortcuts for generating the energy needed for the skill. Fang didn’t want his roommate to give up due to the difficulty of Meteor, so he planned to guide Blue indirectly by presenting his insights as a “discussion.”

---

Blue wasn’t stupid. She quickly understood Fang’s intention, but instead of appreciating his help, she found it comical.

*Teach me? Who do you think you are? I’ve already mastered this 5th-grade technique and even received rare praise from that old man.*

So, within a minute of Fang’s explanation, Blue interrupted with an alternative method for forming the energy.

When Blue finished, Fang fell deep into thought. After a while, he exclaimed, “Blue, I didn’t know you had such great insight into this skill!”

Even compared to his own improvisations, Blue’s method was slightly better.

*No wonder Blue got into Garden College*, Fang thought. *I didn’t think someone my age could have such a high level of perception.*

Countless people had praised Blue in the past, but hearing it from Fang for the first time felt more satisfying than all the others. Maybe it was because Fang had thought she was ordinary. She wasn’t sure what had changed, but she no longer despised him.

Her knowledge came from her father, who had his own interpretation of the theory behind Meteor. Naturally, it was superior, considering her father’s power.

But moments later, Fang added, “What you said is pretty good, but I think there are a few areas that could be improved.”

*Improvement?* Blue’s anger flared.

*You think you can improve on a method my father perfected?*

Despite acting arrogantly toward her father, she actually respected his strength. Hearing Fang suggest improvements to her father’s theory felt like an insult.

Furious, she shouted, “Fine! Tell me what can be improved!”

“Well, when you said some of the energy should be concentrated at a single point, wouldn’t it be better to form it using multiple, spread-out points of contact? And also…”

As Fang explained, Blue’s initial anger shifted to surprise. Thanks for reading on ManaNovel!

The points Fang raised were very reasonable, even more thorough than her father’s method. She didn’t want to admit it, but there was no denying that Fang’s method offered a clearer, more refined approach.

After all, her father was just one person, while Fang had been studying under the guidance of ten supreme experts. His insights were bound to be innovative.

Blue fell silent as Fang continued to describe his interpretation of how Meteor should be used. The adjustments he suggested could truly enhance the technique and perhaps even increase its power.

It seemed her father’s method wasn’t as flawless as she had thought.

Noticing Blue’s silence, Fang asked, “What’s wrong?”

Startled, Blue quickly regained her composure. “Nothing. It seems like this skill *can* be improved a bit.”

“If that was helpful, let’s keep meeting after class to discuss more,” Fang said happily.

“Let’s do that,” Blue agreed. This time, she was genuinely interested. She wanted to hear more of Fang’s ideas.

---

The morning sun lit up the solitary figure walking along the wide road. A single exchange with a guard was all it took for the figure to enter the small castle. The stairs were climbed, and a certain heavy door swung open.

“Old man, I have a question about an energy skill.”

Upon hearing the enchanting voice, Kingsley smiled. “Is this the first time you’ve voluntarily asked about energy? Did the moon turn blue?”

“What? Is it really that rare?” she coughed. “It’s about your technique – the one you taught me.”

She explained Fang’s suggestions for improving Meteor, then added boastfully, “The method you taught me wasn’t the best!”

Kingsley was a little stunned but quickly smiled again. “Daughter, haven’t I always told you? There’s no limit to how much martial arts can evolve. It’s an endless journey, always with room to grow. If you’ve improved on that technique, it’s only to your benefit.”

“Spare me the lecture,” she replied, irritated. “You, the figure the entire country respects, are admitting your so-called ‘perfect’ technique wasn’t the best?”

Kingsley chuckled. “The reputation others give me is exaggerated. There are plenty of people stronger than I am, diligently perfecting their skills in secret. Those ideas you brought up likely came from one of those experts. So, who told you?”

Her plan to provoke Kingsley had failed, and his indifference only made her angrier. “Those so-called expert improvements came from my *roommate!*”

Kingsley’s expression changed as his sharp eyes locked onto his daughter. “Your roommate, Fang?”

“Is there anyone else named Fang at Garden College?” she scowled. “If a 1st-year student could enhance your technique, doesn’t that tarnish your honor?”

Although Kingsley maintained his calm demeanor, he knew that a regular student couldn’t have come up with such insights alone. Even a stroke of random brilliance couldn’t account for the depth of those suggestions.

He had casually picked Fang as a companion for his daughter, but now, he suspected there was more to Fang than met the eye.

The figure behind Fang hadn’t declared him their disciple, which meant they had a specific goal in mind.

Kingsley would have to investigate further. For now, he would leave Fang alone. It seemed that, thanks to the boy, Scarlett had finally taken an interest in training...
