Chapter 43: Classmate

Chapters
Approx. 4min reading time

The next day, when Fang entered the classroom, someone else was there.

But yesterday, other than himself, no one had been attending the Meteor class.

Seeing the person, Fang blurted out, “Blue?”

With her legs curled up, Blue had a relaxed look on her face. “Why, are you surprised to see me?”

After following Fang out of curiosity the day before, Blue had seen him enter the class. At first, she didn’t think much of it and returned to her own classes. But after going to class without Fang, it felt like time dragged on without him. Bored to death, Blue’s thoughts wandered to what Fang was doing and why it was so important to him. So, today, she decided to check it out for herself.

“Blue, you know I came here to learn a technique for the upcoming competition, but why did you come here?”

“What, is my level too low for this class?” Blue tried to brush off the question, but Fang pressed her for an explanation.

“Did you come here just to fool around?”

She frowned. “Who’s fooling around? I’m taking this class like any other student. Am I not good enough? Now that you’re the class representative, do you think everyone else is beneath you?”

Knowing Blue’s quick temper, Fang quickly apologized. “Blue, that’s not what I meant. But this skill is really difficult to learn, and I don’t want you to waste your time here. That’s why I didn’t tell you about this class, even though I know you like attending classes with me.”

“Who said I like attending class with you?” Blue coughed. “I’m just here to learn something new. It has nothing to do with you!”

“Alright, alright, no problem.” Fang said helplessly. Although his roommate was temperamental, they were extremely stubborn once they made a decision. He took a seat next to Blue, hoping that after this class, he might be able to convince her to give up and leave.

The bell echoed through the building, and Weiss appeared right on time. He had hoped Fang wouldn’t show up today, as he had already explained the fundamental theory and the release method. To his surprise, Fang wasn’t alone—there was another student in the classroom. Even more troubling, this student was also from Class Eight. A sudden headache set in.

Why did students these days aim so high? Why did they all want to learn this technique, of all things?

Damn, my peaceful days are over!

Hiding his irritation, Weiss put on a serious face and addressed the new student. “Please introduce yourself.”

“First-year from Class Eight, Blue!”

“Student Blue, which technique did you come here to learn?”

Blue pointed at Fang. “Teacher, I’ll learn whatever this guy is learning.”

“What?” Weiss frowned. “Your classmate Fang has chosen the 5th-grade Meteor. Do you really want to study the same thing?”

5th grade?

Blue was shocked. Though she had secretly followed Fang to the class yesterday, she hadn’t heard what the teacher had said. Weiss had spread his energy awareness to ensure privacy, making it difficult for her to eavesdrop.

To her, learning even the 5th-grade Meteor wasn’t too difficult, but she knew Fang was overreaching. It seemed impossible for him to master it in such a short time. Still, her words couldn’t be taken back, so she could only press forward. “Yes!”

Weiss sighed. He didn’t want to teach, and whether it was the 1st or 5th grade, the chance of success was the same—zero. At least this way, he wouldn’t have to prepare a separate set of lessons.

Though Fang wanted to talk to Blue after class, Weiss interrupted him. “Blue, I’d like to speak with you. Fang, since you two seem to be friends, please wait outside for a moment.” Thanks for reading on ManaNovel!

Fang obediently nodded and left the classroom, sensing that the teacher was going to try and convince Blue to give up.

Fang was right. Weiss’s goal was to lower the number of students in his class. He didn’t despise teaching—quite the opposite. Too many students in the past had tried to learn Meteor and failed, harming themselves in the process. The responsibility weighed heavily on him, and now he did his best to dissuade anyone from attempting the skill.

However, Fang had been an exception. Yesterday, when Weiss tested and lectured him, he was pleasantly surprised. Fang’s questions were insightful, and his control over his energy was remarkable—Weiss couldn’t dismiss the possibility that Fang might actually succeed. But could another student from the same class match Fang’s aptitude? It seemed highly unlikely.

“I understand everyone wants to learn Meteor,” Weiss began, “but you must understand that this skill requires time, effort, and great precision. Many talented students have tried and failed, wasting years of their lives…”

Before he could finish his discouraging speech, Blue released her energy.

Seven colors spread out in a dazzling display around her body—blue like water, translucent wind, warm bright light…

Advanced level—and with seven different elemental properties!

Weiss stared in shock. “Rainbow properties!”

Blue smiled lightly. “Teacher Weiss, do you still think I’m unqualified to learn Meteor?”

Sweat dripped down Weiss’s forehead. A first-year student had already reached the advanced stage and could control seven different elemental properties. If she wasn’t qualified to learn Meteor, then no one was.

And that family... The only known family capable of such a feat.

There was a well-known story about a girl from that prestigious family. She had attended the most renowned schools and caught the attention of countless famous institutes, only to disappear without a trace. It wasn’t shocking—everyone in the city knew that Scarlett was a whimsical beauty.

But despite her unpredictable nature, she was a rare talent, destined for greatness without needing further education.

Weiss had never expected her to quietly enroll at Garden College and hide among the lowest class.

“Certainly, you’re qualified,” he finally admitted, “but…”

“Teacher Weiss,” Blue interrupted, “I have my reasons for being here. Please keep this a secret.”

“Yes!” Weiss bowed politely but couldn’t shake his doubts.

Why had she come to this place, and why was she interested in learning Meteor?

He shook his head. The whims of Minuet City’s capricious beauty were truly unfathomable.

When Blue left the classroom, Fang immediately asked, “Blue, didn’t the teacher tell you it’s not the right time for you to learn Meteor? Maybe you should wait until later.”

Blue rolled her eyes. “No, actually, the teacher agreed it would be beneficial for me to stay in this class.”

“What?” Fang was stunned. He knew Weiss wasn’t the type of teacher to accept students easily. It had taken a lot of effort for Fang to even get Weiss’s attention. And now, he had simply allowed Blue to join?

Perplexed, Fang muttered, “How’s that possible?”

“Nothing’s impossible!” Blue said, her face smug. “I told you I was strong, and Teacher Weiss recognized my talent. He said Meteor was completely appropriate for me. You’ve just been in disbelief this whole time!”

“Okay…”

Fang wondered if Weiss had simply given up trying to convince his stubborn roommate.

Maybe Blue would attend a few classes with him, but once she realized how hard it was to learn Meteor, she’d probably give up on her own.
