Chapter 130: "Shota" - It Seems This World Knows That Term Too

Though I could sense the magical power emanating from the figure before me, it was completely different from what Heavenly Sword had demonstrated.

It was also unlike the fire mage I had eliminated before. While not overwhelmingly powerful, it wasn’t something I could feel at ease about…

“Very well, now I’ll let you taste my true power.”

The shota-looking one waved his hand in the air as if shooing away flies. But I knew better – that wave was far from simple. A chill ran down my spine making my hair stand on end, and my body reflexively leaped to the side.

“Boom!” The ground where I had stood moments ago was torn apart. It looked as if some creature with long claws had just thrust its entire set of talons into the earth.

“Oh? You managed to dodge that?”

“Hey kid, what was that?”

“I have no obligation to tell you. And did you just call me a kid? Sorry to disappoint, but I’m over 20 years old.”

What?

But never mind his age – I had no time to dwell on that. I raised my hand, creating ice arrows and firing them at him. None of them reached their target though, all shattering before they could enter the space a few centimeters around him. It was as if he stood behind an invisible wall.

(Wait, not a wall… it’s a web woven from tangled threads.)

Looking closely, I could see thin, gleaming threads extending from his delicate fingers. Similar ones were undulating around him.

Seeming to notice what I had spotted, Faima spoke up.

“He’s using magic to create ‘threads.’ But how can they function like physical strings like that?”

Indeed, this explained the strange feeling I had during my dropkick. I had executed it perfectly, yet couldn’t leave even half a scratch on that kid. Normally, a kick of that caliber from me would have been enough to make him scrape his face against the stone floor here.

Perhaps these tangled threads constantly existed around him, forming a minimum protective layer for their master while concealing their presence by emitting only minimal magical energy.

“Kiska, please take good care of this soldier.”

I turned to Kiska, who was providing first aid to Kalkudo and Skaria and tossed her the “kidnapper” from earlier. I had roughed him up quite a bit, though I regrettably didn’t have time to apologize or care for him anymore.

“Alright, leave it to me…”

“Hmm… damn it…”

Before she could finish speaking, I sensed another massive wave of killing intent rushing straight at us. Since I was standing right in front of Kiska, if I dodged now, she and the other three would take the full brunt of the attack. No other choice – I had to defend.

Acting on that thought, I created a thick ice shield covering both front and back, preparing for defense.

A loud clang rang out, like a sword striking the ice shield. Peering over, I saw deep claw-like scratches on the shield’s surface. The others were wincing at the loud, sharp collision.

Without a doubt, what the shield had just blocked was a razor-sharp slash, as if from an iron sword. If it had hit me directly, I would probably have been sliced as thin as meat at the market or diced like vegetables in a stew. Just thinking about it sent chills down my spine.

“Not bad reflexes, even though I minimized the magic dispersion.”

The devil with the childish face spoke impressively, then quickly launched another attack. This time the attack range was much wider, making it extremely difficult for me to block everything. Phew… if I had missed even a single moment, who knows what would have happened… Thanks for reading on ManaNovel!
