Peak of the World

Chapter 59 - Tonight's Hostess

Dashing? Charming? Any other person inside could perfectly fit those descriptions better than he could!

Not only was the gaping audience shocked, but Fang himself was astonished as well.

He couldn’t understand how Blue could feel so much unrequited love towards her, but from a single glance, he had to admit that Scarlett was really too attractive.

But why would she describe him like that? Could it be that she was insane?

Slowly, Fang wiped the sweat forming on his forehead as he backed off. “Scarlett, I don’t think I’ve met you before.”

“We haven’t met formally, but I’ve secretly watched you from a place you couldn’t have possibly noticed. It’s actually quite embarrassing to be honest.” She blushed. “Since I got to see you up so close, I’ll take my leave now.” Without giving him a chance to respond, she gracefully turned around and walked out of the hall, seemingly unwary of the countless eyes that stared at her.

Once she exited, the silence broke, and despite some men’s desperate attempts to search outside, she was nowhere to be seen.

Although no one could forget the brief appearance of beauty, a different matter crowded out all other thoughts—her purpose! Amongst all the females in the city, she had to be the most coveted and yet infamous for her apparent disinterest in men. However, she had just approached a man in such an unexpected manner!

Kerry was at a loss for words, unable to believe his eyes. A moment ago, he was directly insulting the peasant in front of him, but it turned out that peasant was the object of Scarlett’s affection!

In Tracy’s view, she never thought that Fang could be charming at all. Looking at his face again, though, she could almost believe that handsome face was charming, even dashing.

After all, this was the guy Scarlett had settled on!

She couldn’t help but whisper to Mii. “You’d better be careful—Scarlett’s extremely beautiful, and without you knowing it, Fang will probably be snatched away.”

Unexpectedly, Mii stayed calm and didn’t respond to Tracy. A few words wouldn’t break her trust in Fang; the years she spent with him were the majority of her life, and she had complete faith.

As she was about to press for a response, an elegantly dressed thin man walked towards her with a couple of bottles balanced perfectly on a platter. “Are you tonight’s hostess, Ms. Tracy?”

Startled, Tracy looked hesitantly at him. “I am, and you are…?”

A light laugh accompanied by a smile. “We wish Miss Tracy a happy birthday. On behalf of Miss Scarlett, some minor bottles of Red Riesling have been sent for you and your guests to enjoy. We hope that you may spend the rest of the night comfortably.”

Red Riesling?

Immediately, she recalled that her father had a bottle of such a wine before—he had never actually tasted it but had placed it in the main entrance of their mansion. That same rarity was now for them to drink, and not just one bottle.

Feeling somewhat confused yet flattered, Tracy bowed towards the man.

“There’s no need for that; it’s by the regards of the lady.” With that, the bottles were put down and left as the man walked out, leaving behind a rejoicing girl.

Moments after the exit, a familiar figure re-entered and started to approach Fang. A strange expression appeared on her face as she sat right next to him. “I thought you didn’t want to stay any longer?”

“I changed my mind. Is there something wrong with that?” Blue stared at Fang, who looked questioningly at her but stayed silent.

A couple of minutes passed by quietly as Blue seemed to concentrate on the faint voices in the crowd, only to be broken by her alarmed question, “Fang, you met with Scarlett?”

“There’s nothing, nothing at all between me and her,” Fang replied. His roommate was definitely interested in her, so he didn’t want to get involved. “I’ve never even seen her until today!”

Fang’s reaction wasn’t what she had expected from his shock earlier; slowly, Blue asked again, “You’re lying, right? I heard that you were in shock when she talked to you—didn’t you like her?”

“No, not at all.” In a low voice, Fang continued. “I think that Scarlett’s standards are a bit twisted. After all, why would she take interest in me? I’m not famous, rich, or handsome. It wouldn’t take much to find someone who exceeds me in any of those areas!”

Blue looked at him in silence, then shouted, “Your standards are twisted!”

She didn’t help him to end up giving a weird idea of her!

Hurriedly, Fang patted Blue’s shoulders. “Calm down. Let’s stop talking about her.”

Drinking, eating, talking; the sky turned nearly pitch black as the party wound down. As the group left, Tracy personally accompanied them to the exit and bid them farewell.
