Chapter 26: Dragon Trait

Chapters
Approx. 4min reading time

With a loud crack, my Dantian collapsed from the charge of the Energy Dragon. Contrary to my fears, only a small part of the Dantian was damaged. The remaining Dantian was unaffected by the damage in the slightest.

I calmed my pounding heart and observed the Dragon carefully. The liquid Energy Dragon immediately rushed toward the crack and began integrating into it like glue. Along with this, new information appeared in my memory.

It felt related to whatever was happening in my Dantian, so I quickly retrieved and inspected the information. As expected, it described one of the major changes a descendant undergoes due to the Blood Legacy Awakening.

It cannot be considered an Inheritance but can be called a Race Trait. This Trait is activated randomly based on the Inheritances a descendant receives. Most Traits manifest physically, such as horns, fangs, claws, or even scales, depending on the Race and Inheritances.

According to the information, what is being activated in my body is called the ‘Dragon Dantian.’ Dragons are beings that first cultivated Spirit Energy, unlike Fiend Gods who cultivated Body Refining Techniques. Naturally, the Dantian is more active and expansive in a dragon compared to a Fiend God.

However, a human body cannot directly possess the Dragon Dantian. Instead, a Special Mark is branded into the existing Dantian to act as a storage house for the Energy. The mark’s capacity will be three times the original capacity of the Dantian. As the cultivator progresses through cultivation Realms, the Mark’s capacity will also increase during breakthroughs.

I was more than happy to receive this Trait. First, it’s an Inner Body Trait, so there will be no major changes to my appearance. Second, the extra energy gives me a huge edge over any cultivator of the same Realm. HAHAHAHAHA…

But as they say, nothing comes for free; there is a drawback to the advantages provided by the Race Trait. Although I can store three times the energy of a normal cultivator, to advance a level, I must cultivate three times more energy than a normal cultivator.

There is no explanation in my memory for this. After thinking about it for a while, I can only speculate that the storage space of the Mark must be filled to the brim before the free Energy in my Dantian can be used for a breakthrough. Otherwise, a shortage of Energy will prevent me from achieving the breakthrough.

As I watched, the liquid Energy Dragon slowly integrated into my Dantian. It eventually changed its appearance from a lifelike 3D Dragon to a tattoo-like Mark on the wall of the Dantian. As it branded into the Dantian, the usage process of the Mark appeared in my memory. It’s quite simple, actually. Whenever I cultivate Spirit Energy, I can allocate any amount of Energy within my Dantian to be absorbed by the Mark. I can access that energy freely with a thought.

With this, it seems that my Awakening of the Blood Legacy is finally over. I gained a Body Cultivation Technique of Fiend Gods and the Energy Veins and Dragon Dantian from my Dragon Family. My entire Spirit Energy Network has been transformed into that of the Dragon Race.

I slowly opened my eyes after a long time. My body creaked as I tried to move. *pop* *pop* *pop* sounds came from my joints as I stood up on my wobbly legs. That feeling quickly vanished, and a comfortable energy spread through my body. Even though there were no external changes except for longer hair, I could feel the power brimming in my body.

I laughed loudly, feeling the power coursing through me. Based on my progress in cultivation, with only my physical capabilities, I could be on par with cultivators of the First Level Spirit Sense Realm. My senses felt keener than before. I could see the droplets of greenish-blue water in the cavern, my hearing was sensitive enough to catch the faint buzzing of insects, and my sense of smell, touch, and taste were all heightened. If a normal human had such intense sensory input, their brain would likely overload from the white noise. But it seemed my brain could process this flood of sensations quite easily. I believe this is the result of the ‘Dragon Sense’ I inherited.

I needed to consolidate all these new experiences with LILY to get a clear picture of my current condition. Then I heard a small voice calling my name from my left. As I turned my head, I felt a brush of air before I was enveloped in two powerful arms tightly hugging me. Even with my heightened senses, I couldn’t follow the movement of that figure.

“Ah, Azalon. You woke up.”

“Hahaha, Dad.”

After all the intense strain from the Awakening, this loving gesture from my father released the tension. I could feel my mind clearing and my tense body loosening up.

My father lowered his head and scrutinized me with a critical look. Surprise flashed across his eyes as he sensed the loss of my cultivation.

“So, have you succeeded? But why are there no signs of energy in your body? You should be at Spirit Sense 3rd level. What happened?”

Facing that barrage of questions, I could only sigh helplessly, thinking back to the time when the Dragon Seed had drained my Dantian. But as I opened my mouth to explain, the muscles in my throat constricted tightly.

No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t produce a single sound. As I tried harder, I saw a flash of red before my eyes, and a figure with a spear on his back appeared. As the figure appeared, an irrational fear spread through my body. He suddenly moved and slashed fiercely with the spear on his back. I saw only a flash of silver before my mind went black.

I woke up with a thumping headache. It felt like my head was going to split open, which made me groan. I turned my head to look around, only to see that I was still in the huge cavern. The cold from the floor helped clear my head slightly, but the throbbing pain persisted.

I looked around and saw my father lying against a rock, snoring lightly, with a small line of drool hanging from the corner of his mouth. I chuckled involuntarily at the sight. This roused my father from his sleep, which amazed me given his sensitivity even in deep slumber. He looked around alertly but immediately relaxed when he saw me. He hurried to my side, and another barrage of questions assaulted me.

I lifted my hand to stop his continuous inquiries and slowly sat up. I massaged my temples to relieve some pain before turning to see my father’s concerned face. I smiled lightly and said in a low voice, “Dad, I can’t talk to you about the Awakening. It seems that trying to discuss it triggers a backlash in my body.” I smiled at him and joked, “It feels like someone has been dancing on my head,” as I lightly massaged my temples again.

My father sat down with a pondering expression. After some time, he smiled lightly and said, “It seems your Inheritances are not ordinary. I remember my father once told me that some Blood Legacies, upon Awakening, grant powerful or surreptitious Inheritances. Such Legacies often come with restrictions to prevent their secrets or origins from being spoken freely.”

His eyes suddenly blazed with pride and happiness, so much so that I felt as if he had been the one to awaken them, not me.

“HAHAHAHA, as your mother said, the Spirits did indeed bless my family, HAHAHAHA…”

I watched with a dumbfounded expression as my father roared with mad laughter, before joining him with a smile on my face.
