Chapter 265 - F-Rank Commission
A few weeks after we registered at the Adventurer’s Guild —
We took on F-rank commissions from the guild and earnestly earned points well during our days-off from the academy of magic.
If we accumulate more points than the standard level, we would be able to take the advancement examination. If we passed that, we could raise our rank one step higher.
Advancement examinations were done by conducting mock battles with the examiner, or else hunting for assigned monsters and subjugating them.
By the way, we only picked medicinal herbs for our F-rank commissions. It was one of the easiest commissions that any noob adventurer could do.
We could also accumulate guild points as long as we provided proof that we slayed strong monsters.
On the other hand, medicinal herb harvesting commissions are placed because if somebody somewhere needs them. That’s why we accepted such jobs that the other adventurers shirk from while we can while we’re still F-ranked.
Medicinal herb harvesting was a commission so important that it was requested all year round, but the compensation was too low that only the most noob adventurers would accept them.
There were also times when the compensation increased when the guild’s stocks were about to run out. During that time, beginner to intermediate adventurers would also receive commissions to gather medicinal herbs.
Adventurers accept commissions from the guild in order to earn a living, so it was understandable that only a few would be willing to take on the medicinal herb collection if the compensation was too low,
I didn’t have to worry about money thanks to Tina.
Picking medicinal herbs might be compensated poorly, but we could accumulate more guild points compared to other commissions.
Besides —
“Halt, are you here to deliver the medicinal herbs today as well?”
“Yes. I brought three sacks of it.”
I lowered the three huge sacks I was carrying on my back on the counter for purchasing materials.
All of them contained medicinal herbs.
“T-Three sacks!? This is such a great help. Thank you very much as always.”
It’s not bad being thanked by the lady receptionist like this.
“Then, ah…We are sorry for always…”
“Is it the matter of compensation? It’s fine, please do it as usual.”
“Sorry for this. You even gathered five parties, so for us to give just this much is…”
The receptionist handed a small bag of spina to me.
Adventurers usually form a party of four when they receive commission.
That’s why we also formed our own parties, too.
Halt, Luna, Kikyou, Shiro —
Tina, Merdie, Mai and Mei —
Sitri, Leaffa, Ryuka and Sylph —
Youko, Hakua, Seira, Elmia —
Luke, Lielle, Ryuushin, Hinata —
— Like that.
The names first mentioned per party were the leaders.
It ended up like this after considering a lot of things. I’ve tried to even out all parties in terms of strength, then I also considered the chemistry between the members, and whether they are couples or husband and wife.
At any rate, no matter which party it was, they could handle majin and demons just in case they encountered one. Of course, I also gave everyone a bracelet with my bunshin and flaming knight inside it.
For some reason, Ryuushin cried when I handed his, and it was quite impressive.
We formed parties, but I told them to just do things however they wanted to. Still, no matter where I went, the other parties were sure to follow.
Well, I did promise Tina that I would always be with her, so I guess it can’t be helped.
Youko and Sitri’s parties would also tag along, not because of their leaders’ instructions, but because everyone in their team wanted to.
Luke’s party would sometimes go elsewhere, but we do spend most of the time together, too.
I actually like how lively everyone is while searching for herbs, and it’s like we’re entry-level guys doing job, so I guess this is fine, but…
“Sorry. The remuneration is only this much this time around, too.”
I showed the pouch of money I just received to everyone; they had been waiting for me outside the guild.
If we were to enter the guild all together when receiving our remuneration, we might attract unnecessary attention that might warrant us relying on Kikyou’s mind manipulation magic again.
That’s why I would go as the representative everytime we received commission requests and when we claimed our reward.
“Eh, only that much…”
“So little!”
“Ahahaha, seriously, Halt.”
Tina was dumbstrucked when she the pouch, Luke yelled, and Ryuushin bursted into laughter.
“That’s because medicinal herbs are cheap.”
“It’s fine even if we only got so little, meow. It’s not like we’re worried about money after, so rather than that —”
“I wanna go hunt monsters!”
“It’s just as Hakua said, meow!”
As expected, some of the members got fed up after picking medicinal herbs in the plains beside the royal capital.
We couldn’t sustain their motivation if the compensation was too little.
That’s why this time around, I received a different kind of commission.
“It seems like goblins are wrecking the village that is situated a bit farther from the Royal Capital.”
“Oh, are we gonna subjugate them?”
Ryuushin’s interest was piqued.
Goblins were E-ranked monsters, so normally, commissions dealing with them normally wouldn’t fall to us F-ranks.
However, the receptionist saw how strongly built everyone’s weapons were, so she decided that we wouldn’t have any problems if our five parties took it on, and we received the commission.
Elmia, in particular, was dressed like a veteran warrior, after all. She’s clad in scarletite armor, and her weapon was the holy sword blessed by Creator God-sama.
And this kind of girl was also assigned to be an F-ranked adventurer, just like me.
“They were only harming the livestock and destroying crops as of now, apparently. But then, the damage might get worse later on if we just leave them be.”
Goblins didn’t pose enough danger to humans if they gathered in small numbers.
However, if they teamed up with monsters from other places, or if they breed and formed groups of more than ten, they would start attacking the people who enter the mountain.
And from then on, their numbers would explode.
If they swarmed in hundreds, they would charge out of their dens and assault the neighboring villages and towns apparently.
A few villages and towns in this world had already been annihilated by goblins.
They were weak if it was a one-on-one combat, but if they gathered in numbers, then we could no longer lower our guard against them — that was the kind of monster the goblin was.
“It’s been fun gathering herbs with everyone, but I also want to go to battle by now.”
“Uh-huh. I’m also tired of sniffing the trails of herbs.”
“Goblin, huh. This armor might not be the perfect fit for that, but…Well, there’s no problem as long as I can swing my sword.”
Luke, Shiro, Elmia all seemed to warm up with the idea of goblin subjugation.
“We have delivered quite a lot of herbs during the past few weeks. Even if it’s the Royal Capital Guild, I don’t think they’ll run out of them for the time being.”
“It’s just as Tina-sama said. I also want to take up another job.”
Tina understood why it was important that we accept the commissions to gather medicinal herbs. H&T trading was also trying to grow medicinal herbs in order to secure a stable supply, but it seemed that it just wasn’t working out.
That’s the reason why the adventurers would receive requests to collect medicinal herbs.
.However, it was also understandable that they were bored of it, just as Leaffa said.
“It might be too late saying this, but let’s call Gnome and have him grow medicinal — mmfff!!”
Sylph was about to say something that would make all our efforts for the past few weeks worthless, so I hurriedly covered her mouth.
Right. Gnome.
You can also grow medicinal herbs, huh…
From now on, if there are rumors of medicinal herbs running out, I’ll just ask Gnome for help.
“Alright, then let’s go subjugate those goblins~!”
“Mmfff, mffff!!”
I carried Sylph while still covering her mouth as I stepped into the teleportation circle that was connected to the place beside the village suffering from the goblin attacks.
