Level 1 Strongest Sage

Chapter 273: Johann, the B-Rank Adventurer (2)

Index

Halt and his comrades arrived while I was waiting at the Guild’s annex arena yesterday.

Everyone looked stronger than me now that I saw them close-up.

Being an adventurer for a long time gives you the ability to gauge whether someone has a higher rank than you in an instant when facing them.

I’m a Level 92 high level knight, and yet it felt like these guys had a higher level than me.

That blue-haired pretty girl named Luna seemed like she’s the weakest one in the bunch, but I probably won’t win against her in a 1v1 battle.

And yet here I am as the proctor for their advancement exam — what a joke.

Well, they’re just gonna fight with slimes at any rate.

Halt and his comrades will probably kill them off in a heartbeat.

The results would still be the same even if somebody else was the proctor, so I should be fine.

— That’s what I thought.

Something unbelievable happened right under my nose.

Halt and his comrades lost against the slime.

Everyone.

Everyone lost, or should I say bound by the slimes.

Unbelievable.

──***──

Youko’s party was the first one to attack, and I see them attack it fiercely, but the slime remained unscathed.

The slime suddenly disappeared after that.

— No, it just moved at a great speed that it looked like it vanished on the spot, catching Youko and her party from behind and restraining them in a flash.

In order to have a full view of the exam, I was standing a little farther away from them while observing them, so I was able to catch the slime’s figure around the time it appeared behind Youko and her party.

It couldn’t be helped that I lost sight of the slime since it moved with that speed.

Did slimes…move that fast?

At any rate, I haven’t seen one move like that before.

The shocking events continued to unfold.

Luke’s party went into battle mode this time to save Youko’s party.

A different slime from the one restraining Youko’s party blocked them.

That slime practically screamed danger, too.

Luke unleashed a lightning spell stronger than any lightning spells I’ve seen before, but the slime was still fine and dandy even after that.

Luke yelled [Ultimate Thunder].

If my memory serves me right, this is the highest level of lightning spells. It’s a mystery why a guy who just became an adventurer could even wield that magic, but more than that, it’s shocking how abnormal this slime is for being able to resist that spell.

Afterward, the slime beat that Ryuushin guy black and blue. After his comrades healed him, half of his body morphed into a dragon.

This guy was probably a dragonoid.

I traveled all over the world, but I never met a dragonoid in my entire life. That’s just how rare their species is.

By the way, it’s said that dragonoids are super strong. That’s because they have the blood of dragons — S-rank monsters — coursing through their veins.

He’s strong, but his party teammates still supported him with auxiliary magic.

Ryuushin’s half dragon half human body crackled and shined with thunderbolt, wind and light.

He’s so cool.

And looked really strong.

But that Ryuushin was —

Easily defeated…

Just as he was about to attack the slime in front of him, a different slime extended its tentacle and tripped Ryuushin.

Ryuushin dived to the ground really fast, and it looked super painful.

With this, the 1 party vs 1 slime system broke down.

Halt and the others had been observing the whole time, but now they also joined the fight.

The battle was…

How should I say this…

To sum it up — it was totally insane.

It was on a whole nother level.

It’s like heroes fighting against the demon king.

I’ve never seen a demon king or a hero before, but…Well, that’s just how abnormal this fight before me is.

I’m still the exam proctor, so I have the duty to save the rookies when things go crazy.

This situation was obviously insane.

Still…It was out of my league.

I’m only as powerful as a B-rank adventurer can get, so just how the heck can I stop a battle between a demon king and heroes, huh?!

Besides, it’s already a mystery that I’m still in one piece even though I’m here.

Just the aftershock of the spell that Halt launched to the slime was enough to erase my existence from the world.

And yet here I was, safe and sound.

Even the arena was fine except for the floor.

I soon discovered the reason for it.

When that woman called Sitri launched an explosive spell, I saw a gigantic transparent dome enclosing the area where Halt and his comrades were fighting.

The [Magical Barrier] that would probably take dozens of high level wizards had been set up before I knew it.

I was standing outside that dome, so that’s probably the reason why I’m still in one piece.

Of course, I don’t have an inkling how to do this.

There’s no way the mages belonging to our Guild could set up a magical barrier that is so perfectly transparent the only way you can see it is when the smoke from an explosion covered the interior. Not only that, it would be impossible for them to build a barrier that can contain the aftermath of a battle that had the survival of the world at stake taking place within it.

Even the most powerful A-rank adventurers of our guild couldn’t do this stunt.

This magical barrier that had been put up in an instant had been protecting me, the surrounding area, the adventurer’s guild nearby, and even this country called Glendale.

If not for this —

Glendale had probably been destroyed already.

Just imagine the level of this battle that was unfolding right before my eyes.

The only thing I could do was watch while praying that Halt and his comrades would win.

The battle just become fiercer by the second, with several explosions happening in succession.

After the smoke cleared up —

Halt and the others were lying on the ground.

Youko and Sitri’s parties had all been captured by the slimes’ tentacles.
